Veteran shinty referee Iain Kennedy has been appointed to officiate the 2025 Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final.
The eagerly awaited showdown between Kingussie and Newtonmore will take place at Bught Park, Inverness, on Saturday 20th September.
Originally from Fort William, Kennedy is one of the sport’s most respected officials.
After a playing career at senior level with Fort William, he turned to refereeing building up an impressive CV across every tier of the game.
He has taken charge of major domestic competitions including the Celtic Cup, Macaulay Cup, Sutherland Cup, Balliemore Cup, and the Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup.
He has also officiated internationally, including at the Mowi Shinty Hurling International between Scotland and Ireland.
His appointment was confirmed by the Camanachd Association, who praised both his professionalism and character.
Officials Director John MacRitchie said:
“Iain has been a committed servant to shinty for many years and has shown great professionalism in his refereeing career.
“His experience at all levels of the game, combined with his amiable personality on the pitch, make him an excellent choice for this year’s Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final.
“We are confident he will manage the occasion with the fairness and respect that this fixture demands.”
Speaking after the announcement, Kennedy said the role was a great honour.
“It’s the highlight of the shinty calendar, and I’m delighted to be entrusted with such an important role,” he said.
“My focus will be on letting the game flow and letting attacks advance where possible, to ensure the players and supporters enjoy a fantastic occasion.”
This year’s final brings together two of shinty’s most historic rivals, promising a dramatic day in the Highland capital.
