Drivers in Inverness are being urged to plan ahead as one of the city’s busiest junctions is set for overnight closures later this summer.

Inshes Roundabout, a key link connecting the Southern Distributor Road, Old Perth Road, Culloden Road and access to the A9, will be closed nightly between Sunday 17 August and Sunday 24 August.

The closure runs from 7pm until 6am each night to allow resurfacing works aimed at improving driving conditions and road safety.

Diversion routes will be in place, and Highland Council has advised motorists to familiarise themselves with alternative journeys in advance.

The roundabout is a well-known congestion point, with heavy queues during rush hour, and the resurfacing is intended to ease future traffic flow and prolong the life of the road surface.

Council engineers have scheduled the works after the school holidays and towards the end of the main tourist season to reduce disruption as much as possible.

Each stage of the resurfacing will focus on different sections of the roundabout and its approach roads, with specific areas tackled each night.

The first night will involve removing the old road surface and adjusting manhole levels.

New surfacing will then be laid progressively through the week, with road markings replaced towards the end of the works.

A provisional date of Sunday 24 August has been set aside should weather or other delays require an additional night of work.

Advance warning signs have already been installed across the city to alert motorists of the closure and highlight the diversion routes.

The council has apologised for any inconvenience but says the improvements will bring lasting benefits for road users once complete.
