Angus MacNeil, MP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar (pictured), has with cross party colleagues written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer to introduce a VAT moratorium on electricity bills for the foreseeable future.

Commenting Mr MacNeil said:

“Given the UK Government has implemented a VAT deferral for businesses, I think it is only right that the same should apply to domestic electricity bills.

‘As many of us will now be self-isolating at home or working from home there will be a substantial increase in bills and a VAT moratorium would greatly help many people, particularly those in fuel poverty.

‘There is great concern that the poorest in society will be hit hardest by self-isolation if their bills increase.

‘I have joined with colleagues from across the House of Commons to suggest that the Chancellor implements this change which would benefit many people, in what will be an already financially difficult time.”
