Isles MP Says PSO on Benbecula Route Now Required

Isles MP Angus MacNeil says action is needed to sort the inappropriate Loganair winter timetable on the Benbecula-Glasgow route and reiterates his call for the route to be designated as a Public Service Obligation (PSO).

Commenting Mr MacNeil MP said:

“The Benbecula-Glasgow winter timetable proposals to not have a Monday morning flight or a Friday afternoon flight will bring an awful lot of local difficulties.

“Clearly the way people live their lives will be severely impacted by this timetabling choice which has come along without any consultation.

“Perhaps the real answer is for PSO on the Benbecula route.

“Island travel has already been eroded by the local council but this step by Loganair really is undermining the viability of many people’s lives in the communities, therefore a PSOs is really the only way to go.

“The Scottish Government should, as a matter of urgency, investigate a PSO on the Benbecula to Glasgow service as there are already on the Tiree and Barra routes.”

Under the regular timetable, there are flights twice a day.

The timetable means that travellers from Benbecula can fly to Glasgow on Friday evening and return early on a Monday morning.

This will not be possible under the new timetable as the single daily flight each way is mid-way through the day.

Mr MacNeil will be raising these issues with Transport Scotland.

Public Service Obligations (PSOs) are obligations imposed on a route to provide a set specification of service.
