Following the news that the Conservative MPs have installed a third Prime Minister in just as many months, Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross’s Liberal Democrat MP, Jamie Stone, has backed a Bill in Parliament calling for an early general election by 1st December 2022.

The Bill is being tabled in Parliament today (Monday 24th October) and will be given its First Reading on Wednesday after Prime Minister’s Questions.

Jamie Stone has urged MPs from across the Highlands to back the Bill and give local people a say over the country’s future.

It comes as several Conservative MPs today have also said an election will be needed in light of their third Prime Minister in as many months.

Commenting, Jamie Stone, MP for the Far North, said:

“The Government has caused calamity and chaos and they must be held to account – Highlanders deserves better.

“The Conservative Party’s incompetence has led to our economy being trashed, our health services neglected, and hundreds of pounds being added to people’s mortgages.

“Now its MPs have installed another out-of-touch Prime Minister with no plan to repair the damage and without giving the British people a say.

“We will now see more of the same, as Conservative MPs plot and squabble amongst themselves while completely ignoring the huge challenges facing the country.

“The only way to end the chaos is a General Election now.”
