An additional bank holiday on Monday, 8 May 2023 has been approved at a meeting of the Council’s Corporate Resources Committee.
The additional bank holiday is in honour of the coronation of His Majesty King Charles.
The bank holiday will fall on Monday 8 May, following the Coronation on Saturday 6 May.
The bank holiday has also been endorsed by the Scottish Government and other countries in the UK to mark the celebration of His Majesty’s Coronation.
Highland Council offices and schools will be closed with minimal service provision on 8 May, such as emergency services, essential services and waste.
A request will be made to the Scottish Government for the Council to reduce the number of teaching days to accommodate the additional public holiday.
