Kingussie Celebrate Camanachd and MacMaster Cup Double

Kingussie celebrated a memorable day of shinty success on Saturday 19th September as the senior side lifted the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup before the club’s youngsters completed a cup double in the MacMaster Cup Final.

The senior showpiece produced a dramatic 2–1 victory over old rivals Newtonmore, with Ruaridh Anderson scoring both Kingussie goals.

Newtonmore made the perfect start when Struan Ross opened the scoring after just five minutes, giving them an advantage they would hold deep into the second half.

Kingussie finally found their equaliser in the 72nd minute when Anderson struck to bring the sides level and set up a dramatic conclusion to the final.

Anderson then delivered the decisive moment in the 94th minute, scoring his second goal to secure a 2–1 victory and send the Camanachd Cup back to Kingussie.

The triumph completed Kingussie’s journey to the final following their 4–1 semi final victory over Skye in August and delivered the biggest prize in the domestic game.

There was more reason for Kingussie to celebrate in the MacMaster Cup Final as their Under 14 side produced an emphatic 5–1 victory over Kilmallie.

Kayla Gow was the standout scorer with a hat trick, finding the net in the sixth, ninth and 40th minutes.

Joep Mommetz added Kingussie’s fourth after 30 minutes before Reid Paterson made it five in the 53rd minute.

Cian MacLean scored for Kilmallie in the 63rd minute, but Kingussie’s commanding advantage ensured there would be no way back.

It completed a memorable cup double for the Badenoch club, with silverware secured at both senior and youth level on the same day.

With the Camanachd Cup and MacMaster Cup heading back to Kingussie, Saturday provided another reminder of the depth of shinty talent running through one of the game’s most successful clubs.
