Kishorn Port has been handed a transformative £24 million investment, a bold move that promises to energise the Highland economy and place Wester Ross at the heart of Scotland’s renewable energy revolution.

The funding, confirmed by the Scottish Government and delivered by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, will expand the port’s dry dock and reclaim surrounding land to support the growing demand for floating offshore wind technology.

The development is set to position Kishorn as a vital hub for manufacturing the giant foundations required for offshore turbines, with the potential to support as many as 1,500 jobs once the site reaches full capacity.

This local investment forms part of a larger £500 million national commitment to strengthen Scotland’s ports and supply chain infrastructure, paving the way for a greener, stronger economy.

Highlands MSP Maree Todd, who visited the site to meet with the Kishorn Port team, praised the scale and significance of the project, calling it a landmark moment for the region.

“This investment is a major milestone, not just for Kishorn Port, but for the economic future of Wester Ross and the wider Highlands,” she said.

“It promises to bring real, lasting benefits to local communities, creating a substantial number of high-quality jobs that will boost the local economy, support families, and help keep skilled workers living and working in the Highlands.”

Maree Todd added that the funding was a clear vote of confidence in both the port’s strategic importance and its role in helping Scotland transition to a net-zero future.

The expansion will also help diversify the local economy by drawing in major engineering projects and new partnerships across the energy sector.

She paid tribute to the team behind the port’s success, saying:

“Massive congratulations to Alasdair Ferguson and his team, this investment is a testament to their vision, hard work, and determination.

“They’re creating opportunities, delivering jobs, and firmly establishing the Highlands as a key player in industrial innovation and renewable energy.”

As work gets underway on this ambitious development, the investment signals a new chapter for Kishorn and its community, offering a rare blend of heritage, innovation and forward-looking energy that reflects the best of the Highlands.
