Laùra Hänsler Selected to Stand in Skye Lochaber and Badenoch

Laùra Hänsler has been selected as the Alliance to Liberate Scotland candidate for Skye Lochaber and Badenoch in the Scottish Parliamentary elections taking place in May.

Her selection places a new name into a constituency that covers one of the largest and most geographically diverse areas in the Scottish Parliament, stretching from the west coast communities of Lochaber to the island communities of Skye and the inland towns and villages of Badenoch.

The constituency has long faced challenges linked to rural infrastructure, healthcare access and economic opportunity, issues that remain central to political debate across the Highlands and Islands.

Hänsler has been involved in campaigning work across the region for several years and says her decision to stand reflects a desire to bring practical experience of rural life and public service into the Scottish Parliament.

“I’m proud to stand for Skye, Lochaber & Badenoch with Alliance to Liberate Scotland.

“I’ve campaigned extensively over the years on the A9 Dualling Project; advocating for safer roads; and on HIFRS; pushing for decentralised control rooms so that local communities have a real say over these services.

“As a former NHS professional, I know the real challenges faced in delivering healthcare in rural areas, and I understand the constraints of rural life; from farming and crofting to fishing; and the commitment it takes to keep these communities thriving.

“As the Constituency MSP, my focus will be on transport safety, rural healthcare and supporting our local economies; ensuring that decision taken that affect Skye, Lochaber & Badenoch will be made with local people at the forefront.

“Alliance to Liberate Scotland is committed to empowering communities, promoting transparency, and delivering practical solutions that reflect the realities of live across Scotland’s Highlands and Islands.”

The Skye Lochaber and Badenoch constituency is one of the most recognisable political battlegrounds in the Highlands, combining remote island communities, rural mainland settlements and growing tourism centres.

Campaign debates in the area often focus on infrastructure, housing pressures, healthcare provision and the sustainability of local economies in fragile rural communities.

The upcoming Scottish Parliamentary election in May is expected to see candidates from several parties competing across the Highlands as political groups seek to strengthen their presence in rural Scotland.

Hänsler’s campaign is likely to focus heavily on transport safety, healthcare access and economic resilience, issues which continue to shape political discussion across the region.

With the election approaching, voters across Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch will once again be weighing the competing visions presented by candidates seeking to represent one of Scotland’s most distinctive constituencies.
