Kate MacLean (pictured), a Community Development Officer with NHS Highland Adult Services, has been announced as the SNP candidate to contest the Inverness West by-election on Thursday 12th of August.

She said she was proud to have won the trust of local SNP members and is privileged to be standing to represent Inverness Ward residents.

If elected, Ms MacLean’s primary focus will be to work with fellow Councillors to ensure recovery and resilience is at the core of everything the Council does.

She is also passionate about increasing high skilled jobs in the area and will use her influence as a Councillor to promote a greener, fairer city for all.

Commenting, Kate MacLean said:

“I am honoured to have been selected as the SNP candidate for the Inverness West Council by-election.

“My SNP colleagues have a strong record in holding the Council administration to account on critical issues facing local families, and I would feel immensely privileged to join them in standing up for Inverness West communities.

“As someone who has deep roots in the city, I am passionate about ensuring the Highland Council builds recovery into everything we do.

“Local businesses, especially those in the tourism sector, need our support, which starts with listening to their concerns.

“The last year has been difficult for all of us, yet we have seen the very best of people, as neighbours, looked out for each other and mobilised as local teams to look after the most in need.

“With the trust of Inverness residents, I will work to ensure local groups have the opportunity and resources to develop community-led projects and work to transform our city into a greener, fairer place to live.”

SNP MP for Inverness, Drew Hendry said:

“When families’ finances are stretched, and people are facing difficult choices, they need a councillor who will represent them on the issues that matter most.

“Kate is already a tremendous advocate for Inverness West communities as a community campaigner and through her role with NHS Highland Adult Services.

“She is hard-working, honest and folk in Inverness West can certainly count on Kate to get the job done.

Inverness West Councillor Bill Boyd added:

“I am delighted that Kate is our SNP candidate for the Inverness West by-election, and I hope to call her my Councillor colleague soon.

“Kate cares deeply about our city and for the most vulnerable in our society.

“She has set up several local initiatives such as a monthly cafe for the bereaved, a soup kitchen for the homeless and the hungry and supports many other excellent community projects.”

The chair of Inverness City SNP branch, Janet Spence, added:

“Kate received overwhelming support from our local members to represent the SNP in the forthcoming Inverness West by-election.

“She is enthusiastic and is wholly committed to doing her best for the people of Inverness West, focusing on issues that affect many.”
