Caithness, Sutherland & Ross MSP, Maree Todd, has praised the work of staff and volunteers at Home Start East Highland for the crucial support they offer to local families.
The MSPs praise follows a recent visit to one of Home Start’s support sessions in Invergordon.
Home Start is a local community network made up of trained volunteers and experienced professionals who offer support to families with young children during challenging times.
The service receives support from the Scottish Government through the Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Fund, administered by Inspiring Scotland.
The fund assists third-sector organisations in delivering expanded peer support, parenting support and perinatal counselling services to women, infants and their families during pregnancy and the early stages of their lives.
In September, Home Start East Highland celebrated 35 years of service and support to the community.
Maree Todd MSP said:
“I had the pleasure of meeting with the staff and trustees of Home Start Highland in Invergordon recently, where I heard all about the invaluable services they provide to local families.
“During my visit, I had the opportunity to speak with several families who shared their experiences with Home Start.
“They emphasised how the service had been a genuine lifeline to them and of the positive difference the support has had on their lives.”
Maree Todd adds:
“With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and the lasting impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the social and mental wellbeing of many families has been affected.
“The Scottish Government recognises the vital contribution of third-sector organisations like Home Start in communities across Scotland and continues to provide support through the Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Fund.
“This helps ensure families can access the support they need, when they need it.
“I know It is a great comfort to families across Highland knowing that support from Home Start is available within their community.
“I’m very grateful for their presence across my constituency and for the support offered to my constituents who are experiencing hard times.”
