A 27 year old man has been sentenced to six years in prison following a violent attack on a woman at a property in Oban.
Daniel Torrie was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday 9 October 2026, having previously pleaded guilty to seriously assaulting the woman on Monday 17 November 2025.
Police Scotland described the attack as traumatic and deplorable, welcoming the sentence and reaffirming its commitment to supporting victims of violence and abuse.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Gillies said:
“Daniel Torrie is a dangerous individual and we welcome his sentencing for his despicable actions.
“He subjected his victim to a traumatic and deplorable attack and he will now face the consequences.
“Violence and abuse of any kind have no place in society and we remain committed to supporting victims and bringing those responsible to justice.
“I’d encourage anyone who has been a victim of such crimes to come forward and report it to us, regardless of when it happened.
“We will thoroughly investigate and have specially trained officers and partner agencies to support you throughout.”
The sentencing brings criminal proceedings against Torrie to a conclusion following his guilty plea, although police have not released further details about the circumstances of the assault.
Officers are encouraging anyone who has experienced violence or abuse to report it, even where an incident happened some time ago.
Police Scotland says specially trained officers and partner organisations are available to provide support throughout the investigation process.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring victims of serious violence are heard, supported and able to seek justice.
