The man who died at a property in Inverness earlier this month has been named as 32 year old Iain MacFarlane.
Emergency services were called to a home on Strathspey Place at around 8.30am on Thursday 4 December 2025, where Mr MacFarlane was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the results of a post mortem examination, Police Scotland has confirmed that his death is being treated as murder.
A 52 year old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death and appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday 8 December.
Mr MacFarlane’s family released a statement through Police Scotland, thanking the local community for its support.
“We are devastated by the death of Iain.
“We would like to thank the community for their support and kind tributes to him.
“It has brought us comfort at this difficult time.
“We ask for privacy as we continue to come to terms with what has happened.”
Police say specialist officers are continuing to support Mr MacFarlane’s family as enquiries remain ongoing.
Detective Inspector Caroline MacKay said:
“Our thoughts remain with Iain’s family and friends.
“We have specially trained officers supporting them at what is a very difficult time.
“I’d like to thank the local community for the support and patience shown while enquiries were conducted in and around the area.

Police Scotland has said there is no wider risk to the public.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mr MacFarlane’s death remain active.
