Commenting on the news that a permanent drone delivery service for mail has been launched in Orkney, Orkney MSP Liam McArthur said:
“Having witnessed earlier trials, I am really impressed by the progress that has been made in terms of drone deliveries.
“While more work is still needed before we see drones being used more extensively the potential, particularly in rural and island areas, is significant.
“The focus at the moment is on mail deliveries, although thought is already being given to other possible applications, including the delivery of medicines and other urgent items.
“Given the benefits on offer to island communities through improved reliability and resilience, it’s fitting that Orkney is yet again leading the way in this area.
“I look forward to seeing how these latest trials develop and congratulate all those involved in getting to this stage.”
