Moray Council has approved Monday 8 May as an additional day of annual leave to mark the celebrations of His Majesty King Charles III’s coronation.

This also means schools and Early Learning and Childcare settings will close in-line with nationwide arrangements.

Monday 8 May will be a Bank Holiday across the UK and comes one week after the May Day holiday.

The costs when allocating an additional day’s leave for Council staff are estimated to be £40,000.

Employees who are required to work will be able to take the additional day’s leave at another time.

Council Leader, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said:

“Just as we did for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and sadly shortly thereafter following her death, we’re pleased staff will be able to join the nation on a day of leave on 8 May.

“We’re yet to see what communities have planned for the momentous occasion but I’m sure there will be lots of celebrations over the course of the weekend for the coronation.”
