To mark the 10th anniversary of Scottish Housing Day, Moray Council is celebrating the unsung heroes who help make neighbourhoods stronger, kinder, and more connected.
The Council has launched a search for ‘tenant legends’ residents in council housing who go above and beyond to support their neighbours and communities.
From checking in on others to lending a hand with local projects, nominees are being recognised for the everyday acts of kindness that help build the kind of places people are proud to call home.
“Scottish Housing Day gives us a chance to celebrate the people who make our communities what they are,” said Cllr Amber Dunbar, Chair of the Housing and Community Safety Committee.
“Supportive, welcoming and resilient.
“We know there are countless tenants across Moray who make a difference every day, often without any recognition.”
“All nominees will be entered into a prize draw, and we’ll be highlighting some of their stories in Tenants’ Voice magazine and on social media,” she added.
The theme for this year’s Scottish Housing Day is ‘Good Neighbours and Strong Communities’ a focus on relationships, shared spaces, and the value of looking out for one another.
Tenant representative Liz Mcknockiter said it’s a chance to honour those who quietly make a difference.
“What we’re looking for really are the unsung heroes, the people who help others automatically,” she said.
“They don’t do it for recognition, they do it because they care.
“We feel they really do deserve that recognition and I would encourage residents to put forward nominations.”
Nominations can be made via the Council’s engagement platform, Moray Engage.
With communities facing rising challenges around isolation and wellbeing, Moray Council says now is the perfect time to shine a light on those who strengthen neighbourhoods from the ground up.
