Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed UK Government assurances that regional connectivity is a priority and assistance will be given to ensure airports including Inverness can continue to operate following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Commenting after raising the issue during a statement on aviation in Westminster Douglas said:

“Connectivity is vital for a rural economy such as Moray and I welcome the assurances given by the Transport Minister that regional airports will remain a top priority for the UK Government.

“As a regular user of Inverness airport I know how vital it is that our airports and airlines are supported through this difficult time.

“While Inverness has been operating with only essential flights during much of this pandemic, it is good news that Easyjet will reintroduce some of their routes in a matter of weeks, including to and from Inverness.

“This will be a boost to the airport and Moray commuters who rely on this service.

“Although Inverness airport has been operating with a very limited number of flights over the past few months, support is vital for them to be able to continue to offer a robust and sustainable service and I’m encouraged by the Government’s commitment to working towards ensuring the survival of regional airports who have been badly affected by this pandemic.”
