Moray’s SNP MSP, Richard Lochhead, has hailed the success of the first Farmers Market at Byres Farm this weekend, which showcased some of the region’s outstanding food and drink producers.

The market was one of two local initiatives that secured funding through the Scottish Government’s Regional Food Fund, which aims to support food and drink businesses across the country.

Mr Lochhead joined the crowds who turned out to support the Farmers Market.

Commenting, Richard Lochhead MSP for Moray said:

“It was great to see so many folk turn out to show their support for the Farmers Market pilot event which really was a run-away success, demonstrating the high demand for good quality, locally sourced food and drink produce – something we have in abundance here in Moray.

“The event was a collaboration between Byres Farm and Avva Gin, and Helen, William and Jill should be congratulated for their vision and hard work, creating a hugely successful market and generating good business for the businesses that took part.

“I was delighted to be invited along by the organisers and purchased some great local produce ranging from jams and honey to seafood.

“I’m really pleased this event was supported with Scottish Government funding given the importance of the food and drink industry to Moray’s economy, and I very much hope folks will support future market events at Byres.”
