More than 600 school pupils took to the field on Saturday to take part in Moray’s largest annual sporting festival for young people.

The Active Schools Primary Cross Country event took place at Gordon Castle, Fochabers with around 1,000 spectators gathering to enjoy the festivities.

The event – organised by the Moray Active Schools and Community Sport team in partnership with Sportscotland and Moray Council – included a fun run for primary 1-3 pupils, and a number of competitive races for older children.

Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Communities and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said:

“It’s fantastic to see so many young people enjoy this event, which I hope will not only encourage them to keep active; but help them develop a lifelong passion for sport.

“Congratulations to all of the winners, and to all that participated – and thank you to the spectators who turned out in force to create an exciting atmosphere on the day.”
