Three community projects in Nairnshire are set to benefit from more than £100,000 in funding, after councillors agreed awards from the area’s Community Regeneration Fund this week.
A total of £100,054 was allocated at the Nairnshire Area Committee meeting on Monday 25 August, supporting work to restore Nairn’s Victorian heritage, improve public facilities and enhance the riverside for people and wildlife alike.
The successful projects include £25,054 for the Nairn Links Heritage Project, £45,000 for the redevelopment of the Nairn Links toilets, and £30,000 for the Nairn Riverside Development Plan.
The Nairn Links Heritage Project will focus on upgrading historic features such as the Grade A listed bandstand, Victorian shelters and monuments, while also linking to the museum through digital QR signage.
Local volunteers will have the chance to take part in the restoration, ensuring the town’s story is preserved for future generations.
Meanwhile, the Nairn Links Toilets project will draw up design options for a modern, fully accessible facility.
The proposed hub will include a Changing Places toilet and storage for the popular Nairn Beach Wheelchairs, ensuring inclusivity remains at the heart of the development.
The Nairn Riverside Development Plan aims to transform the riverside into a space that welcomes both people and nature.
Priorities include creating wildlife habitats, improving access and signage, installing play and picnic areas, and highlighting local heritage through art and events.
Cllr Paul Oldham, Vice-Chair of the Nairnshire Area Committee, said:
“We are delighted to support all three projects which will bring welcome improvements to Nairn Links, riverside and public toilets.
“Community Regeneration Funding plays a key role in enabling Ward members to support important projects in the heart of our communities and for the benefit of our local people.
“In particular, the funding agreed will enable work to move forward on producing a number of possible design options for the re-development of the toilets at the Nairn Links, with accessibility playing a key role in the proposed future renovations at this site.
“I am certain this will be very much welcomed by locals and visitors to the area.”
Together, the three projects promise to shape a healthier, more inclusive and more vibrant Nairn for years to come.
