M&S Union Square has confirmed the grand opening date for its eagerly awaited, expanded foodhall, set to welcome shoppers on Friday 11th April at 8am.

The new foodhall is set to be twice the size of its predecessor, offering an enhanced shopping experience alongside a brand-new Coffee Shop and a modern menswear department.

Covering an impressive 18,900 sq ft, the fresh market-style foodhall will feature an extensive range of M&S food, providing a vibrant and exciting setting for grocery shopping.

Shoppers can look forward to an expanded in-store bakery, a dedicated Hot Chicken Counter, a cheese barge, and a Flower Shop, as well as an M&S Wine Shop showcasing an award-winning selection from the popular M&S Classics range.

The new foodhall replaces the existing 9,000 sq ft Union Square store and the soon-to-close St Nicholas Street store.

To allow for the final preparations, the current Union Square foodhall will close for one day on 10th April, with a small Food On The Move and takeaway coffee option available at the front of the store.

The Coffee Shop at M&S Union Square will be closed from 3rd March until the grand reopening on 11th April.

Meanwhile, the M&S St Nicholas Street foodhall will close its doors on 10th April, with the remainder of the store set to cease operations in summer 2025.

Store Manager Luke Smith, who has led both the St Nicholas Street and Union Square locations, expressed his excitement for the new launch, calling it a “game-changer” for Aberdeen shoppers.

He highlighted the improved shopping experience, promising customers an impressive selection of high-quality food and trusted value that M&S is known for.

Over 300 dedicated store colleagues are eagerly preparing to welcome customers to the transformed store.

The expanded foodhall, Coffee Shop, and menswear department mark just the beginning of an ambitious transformation, with the full 97,300 sq ft store set to open by summer 2025.

This expansion represents a major £15m investment in Aberdeen’s city centre and is part of M&S’s wider £30m commitment to upgrading its Scottish stores.

Rachel Rankine, Regional Manager for M&S North Scotland, described the new store as a significant investment that reinforces M&S’s dedication to Aberdeen and its customers.

She promised an upgraded shopping experience, featuring high-quality food, trusted products, and excellent value, all within a contemporary setting.

Once fully completed, the transformed store will include a vast 48,000 sq ft Clothing, Home & Beauty department, featuring popular M&S brands such as GoodMove, Per Una, Autograph, and Apothecary.

The Beauty department will also triple in size, offering a broader selection of branded beauty products for customers to explore.

Shoppers will benefit from additional convenience services, including Click & Collect and Scan & Shop, making their experience even more seamless.

The expanded M&S Aberdeen Union Square foodhall, located within Union Square Shopping Centre, will officially open its doors on Friday 11th April at 8am, offering a fresh and dynamic shopping destination for the city.
