MSP Says First Minister has Betrayed North of Scotland With Broken Promises to Dual A9

Highlands and Islands Labour MSP Rhoda Grant tore into the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, today on the SNP failure to dual the A9 by 2025.

At FMQs today (09.02.23) the Regional MSP said that the First Minister has “betrayed” communities in the North of Scotland with her SNP Government’s broken promise to dual the A9.

She then went on to press for a date for the completion of the dualling and asked “if the Greens are running this Government?”

The First Minster repeated that she is firmly committed to dualling the A9 between Perth and Inverness.

She then went on to say that the Scottish Government has reviewed the submitted tender for Tomatin to Moy and they concluded that it would not be “best value” for the taxpayer.

Speaking after FMQ’s Rhoda Grant MSP said:

“It is clear to me that this has never been a priority for the Scottish Government.

“The scale of the project is nearly the exact same as it was in 2011 when the promise was made and if they were running on time, then inflation never would have impacted it.

“Highland residents are benefiting from only 10 miles of completed dual carriageway.

“That is unacceptable and it beggars belief that they will have to wait until Autumn for an updated timetable for this dualling.”
