Nairn Post Office Set for High Street Move and Longer Opening Hours

Nairn Post Office is on the brink of a fresh start, with plans in motion to relocate to a more central spot on the High Street and extend its opening hours.

If approved, the branch would move from its current base on Cawdor Street to Strachans Newsagents at 18 High Street, bringing the service right into the heart of the town.

This proposal includes a permanent new postmaster, a refurbished setting and an increase in weekly service hours, offering more flexibility and reliability for the community.

The current arrangement has relied on a temporary postmaster to keep things ticking over, but Post Office Ltd say they’ve been working behind the scenes to find a lasting solution that meets the needs of local residents.

Under the proposed changes, the new Post Office would be open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, and from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.

That’s 46 and a half hours of service each week, including valuable access on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings, with no lunchtime closures.

The move would see the branch fitted with two low-screened counters alongside the existing retail counter, all designed to blend seamlessly into the newsagent’s shop floor.

Crucially, the full range of Post Office services would remain available, from posting and banking to bill payments and passport checks.

Post Office Ltd say this relocation would not only improve accessibility but also help secure the long-term future of services in Nairn.

A public consultation is now open until 19 June, and local voices are being invited to shape the final decision.

Anyone wishing to share their views can do so online at postofficeviews.co.uk using branch code 225840.

This proposal marks an important moment for Nairn, offering the chance to modernise a cherished local service while keeping it firmly rooted in the town centre.
