Employers across the Highlands and Islands can now apply for support from a new £2 million fund designed to help businesses develop the workforce they need for the future.
The Workforce North Co-Investment Fund aims to help employers recruit, retain and develop staff as the region prepares for what is expected to be more than £100 billion of investment over the next decade.
Backed by £2 million from Skills Development Scotland, the fund will support projects that help businesses tackle skills shortages, strengthen workforce pipelines and create new opportunities for people across the region.
Funding is available for initiatives linked to apprenticeships, skills development, innovation and other shared workforce challenges.
The fund is part of Workforce North, a partnership bringing together employers, local authorities, education providers, and government agencies to help the Highlands and Islands make the most of major economic opportunities.
With significant investment planned in sectors such as renewable energy and construction, partners say the region must have the people and skills needed to make the most of the opportunity.
Scottish Government Business and Fair Work Minister Tom Arthur said:
“This pilot fund will help employers respond to current workforce challenges while preparing for the opportunities being created by major investment across the Highlands and Islands.
“It will strengthen skills pathways and support businesses to build the workforce they need for the future.”
Skills Development Scotland Chair Frank Mitchell said:

“This fund is about helping employers develop the workforce needed to make the most of those opportunities and ensure local communities benefit.”
Highland Council Convener Bill Lobban said:

The fund is being administered by The Highland Council on behalf of the region.
Applications for the first funding round are open until 30 October 2026.
Employers are encouraged to review the guidance to check eligibility and identify the most suitable funding stream before applying.
