New Era for Gymnastics Begins in Lochaber

A new era for gymnastics in Lochaber will begin this month as High Life Highland takes over the area’s established programme and ensures children and young people can continue enjoying the sport in Fort William.

Sessions will begin at Lochaber High School on 30 October, with booking opening on 8 October and the existing coaching team remaining at the heart of the programme.

Previously delivered by Lochaber Gymnastics Club, the programme will now operate under the High Life Highland banner while building on the years of work which established gymnastics as a popular activity for local families.

The new programme will cater for children and young people of all ages, from tots discovering gymnastics for the first time through to teenagers looking to develop their skills, confidence and enjoyment of the sport.

For families already involved, one of the most important parts of the change will be continuity, with the experienced coaches who have worked with generations of local youngsters staying with the programme.

Gymnastics will also become part of the highlife membership, allowing members to attend sessions without paying an additional charge.

Young people who are not members will still be able to participate, with sessions priced at £5.50 each.

Rebecca Maclean, Active Schools Coordinator, said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to be bringing gymnastics into the High Life Highland programme and to continue offering these fantastic opportunities for children and young people across Lochaber.

“Lochaber Gymnastics Club has played an incredibly important role in the community for many years, helping countless young people grow in confidence, develop new skills and form lasting friendships.

“We are proud to be building on that legacy and ensuring gymnastics continues to have a strong future in the area.

“One of the things we are most excited about is being able to retain the excellent coaching team.

“Their experience, enthusiasm and commitment have been key to the success of gymnastics in Lochaber, and their continued involvement will provide a familiar and welcoming environment for participants.”

The move gives the established programme a new home within High Life Highland while retaining the people and experience which have helped make gymnastics part of life for generations of youngsters in the area.

Bookings will open on 8 October ahead of the first sessions on 30 October, with previous Lochaber Gymnastics Club participants also receiving information directly by email.
