Explore the Hidden Gems of Islay and Tobermory with interactive maps, scenic trails, and fun family challenges.

Argyll and Bute Council  has launched two new travel apps, Discover Islay and Discover Tobermory, designed to offer a digital travel guide for all abilities.

These free-to-download apps are the latest additions to the council’s growing suite of interactive travel guides, now covering eight different locations across the area.

Designed with user-friendly interactive menus, Discover Islay and Discover Tobermory provide a variety of routes to choose from, catering to gentle walkers, enthusiastic cyclists, and those seeking trails that are more challenging.

Each trail page includes a detailed route description, allowing users to decide the suitability based on their preferences and abilities.

Discover Islay and Discover Tobermory feature different walking and cycling routes.

They include:

  • Discover Tobermory:
    • Tobermory Harbour
    • Tobermory to Rubha Nan Gall Lighthouse
    • Aros Park and Waterfall

  • Discover Islay:
    • Port Askaig to Finlaggan
    • Port Ellen to the Lighthouse
    • Three Distilleries Trail

Beyond the routes, the apps include fascinating facts about local landmarks and history.

To keep younger explorers engaged, you’ll also find family quizzes, eye spy games, and scavenger hunts.

Councillor John Armour, Policy Lead for Roads, Transport and Amenity Services:

“Our active travel apps are a fun and interactive way to get out and discover some of the special places and hidden history to be found in and around Argyll Bute’s main settlements.

“These new apps are part of our ongoing commitment to promote Argyll and Bute as a great visitor destination.

“We also hope they encourage more people to get out and about, become more active and discover what’s on their own doorsteps.

“They’re a great way to discover new walking and cycling routes while leaving the car behind to enjoy being outdoors, whatever the weather.”

Discover Islay and Discover Tobermory are available for free download from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
