A new walk in GP clinic will open in Moray this summer as part of a wider rollout of 16 centres across Scotland.

The Scottish Government says the clinics will provide urgent, on the day primary care without the need for an appointment, operating from 12pm to 8pm seven days a week.

The Moray clinic is expected to help deliver thousands of additional appointments locally while easing pressure on GP practices and Dr Gray’s Hospital A and E department.

Nationally, the 16 walk in centres are projected to provide more than one million additional GP and nurse appointments.

SNP candidate for Moray Laura Mitchell said she had campaigned for the clinic and welcomed the announcement.

“The opening of a new walk-in GP clinic in Moray will be a game changer, I’ve campaigned for one to come here and I know what a difference this will make to people in our local community.

“The new clinic will ensure that people can see a GP quicker, without an appointment, and help ease pressures on GP practices and Dr Gray’s A&E department.

“This announcement shows the SNP is determined to improve access to NHS services for people in Moray.

“John Swinney’s strong leadership is focussed on the priorities of the people of Scotland and we are starting to see our NHS turn a corner with waiting times falling and GP walk-in centres popping up across the country.

“I’ve been on the doors across Moray for many months now, listening to people’s priorities and I know how much good, accessible health services mean to folk in Moray, I will always be a voice for local patients, services, and staff.

“The SNP’s focus will always be on delivering for the people of Scotland, that’s what’s on the ballot on 7th May.”

The new service is aimed at providing quicker access for patients with urgent concerns while reducing bottlenecks elsewhere in the local health system.
