Nine Year Old Girl Dies in Crash Near Drumnadrochit

A nine year old girl has died following a road crash between Drumnadrochit and Cannich, with police appealing for witnesses as they investigate the circumstances of the collision.

Emergency services were called at around 5.30pm on Wednesday 7 October after a Volkswagen Polo and a Ford Ranger were involved in a collision on the A831.

An air ambulance was among the emergency services attending, but the young girl, who had been travelling as a rear seat passenger in the Volkswagen Polo, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen Polo and a passenger travelling in the front seat were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.

Police have not provided further details about their injuries.

The road remained closed for seven hours while officers carried out investigations at the scene.

Sergeant Kate Finlayson said:

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the girl who died, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or the vehicles prior to contact us.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area and who may have dashcam footage that could assist to please get in touch.”

Officers are particularly keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision, saw either vehicle beforehand or has dashcam footage which could help establish what happened.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 2610 of 7 October 2026.

A young life has been lost, and the thoughts of many will be with her family and those closest to her as police continue their enquiries.
