Registration is now open for Orkney’s fifth annual Parasport Festival, offering children with disabilities the chance to try a wide range of sports in a supportive and inclusive setting.
The event will take place on Friday 27 February at the Pickaquoy Centre in Kirkwall, running from 9.15am to 2.15pm.
Now firmly established in the local sporting calendar, the festival is aimed at children with physical disabilities, vision impairment, hearing loss or Down Syndrome, giving them the opportunity to explore different activities and build confidence through sport.
The festival is supported by Scottish Disability Sport, the Pickaquoy Centre, Inclusive Orkney, Orkney Islands Council’s Sports and Leisure team, OIC Outdoor Education and local sporting clubs including Orkney Rugby Football Club and Orkney Athletic and Running Club.
Sports Leaders from Stromness Academy will also assist on the day.
This year’s programme includes rugby, athletics, archery, climbing and boccia, with experienced coaches and specialists on hand to adapt activities to suit individual needs.
Organisers say the festival is designed to ensure every child can take part, try something new and enjoy a positive sporting experience.
Parents and carers are encouraged to register before 5pm on Wednesday 25 February.
