People in Moray to Pay The Price for Tory Chaos Says Lochhead

Responding to the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement, Moray SNP MSP Richard Lochhead said:

“The Tories have trashed the UK’s economy and are people in Moray will pay the price as the Chancellor ushers in a new wave of painful austerity cuts.

“Ordinary people are being left to clean up this Tory Government’s mess.

“The Tory Chancellor could have made fairer choices – tackling non-doms and expanding the windfall tax to include companies making excess profits.

“Instead, the Tories are imposing devastating cuts to household budgets and vital public services at a time when people will need these services more than ever.

“Households in Moray will be especially concerned by UK Government plans to increase energy bills at the same time as they’re cutting incomes and imposing stealth taxes, and I know that a great many of my constituents will be worried sick.

“The pain being felt by households is severe and the Tory Government’s plans will do nothing to ease the pressure, as the OBR tells us we’re set to see the biggest reduction in household incomes since records began in the 1950s.

“The reality is people are significantly worse off now than when the Tories came to power and so it’s no surprise more and more people are being persuaded of the case for independence, which would allow us to make better, fairer choices for people in Scotland.”
