People in Wick are being invited to share their thoughts on ambitious plans to expand the town’s thriving business park as Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) looks to create more space for local companies to grow and new ones to set down roots.
The proposals mark the second phase of development at Wick Business Park, which has already proven a draw for a wide range of firms, with demand now outstripping available space.
If approved, the new masterplan could unlock up to 12,500 square metres of additional land for business, industrial, storage and trade counter use, providing a major boost to the Caithness economy and helping to sustain jobs and community resilience.
Before any formal planning application is lodged, HIE is inviting residents, businesses and anyone with an interest in the area’s future to help shape the proposals at two public drop‑in events in Caithness House, Wick.
The first will take place on Wednesday 20 August from 3pm to 7pm, with a second event scheduled for Thursday 25 September.
Information will also be available online via the HIE website from the date of each event, ensuring as many people as possible can access the details and share their views.
Eann Sinclair, HIE’s area manager for Caithness and Sutherland, said the expansion offered an opportunity to support existing businesses and attract new investment to the region.
“Caithness is one of our focus areas for targeted investment and Wick Business Park presents an excellent opportunity to support the growth of local businesses while keeping them local, and to attract new companies into the area,” he said.
“This will support wider efforts around jobs, population and community resilience.
“The park has proved to be an appealing location for businesses of all kinds, with demand outstripping availability of premises.
“With phase one mostly built out, we’re keen to progress with phase two and we want the community to help shape it.”
Initial comments are encouraged by 5pm on Monday 25 August, either at the first event or by emailing planning@turnberryuk.com, so that feedback can be reflected in updates presented at the second session.
HIE has stressed that views gathered during this consultation will help inform its final proposals but will not replace the formal opportunity to submit representations once the planning application is lodged.
