Scotland’s traditional music heartland is set to light up as Plockton’s National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music celebrates 25 unforgettable years.

The Highlands have long been a cradle for musical talent, and since opening its doors in 2000, Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd has shaped some of the finest musicians in the country.

Now, past and present students will reunite for a very special night at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness on 19 June.

From humble beginnings with just nine students, the Centre has become a powerhouse of Scottish music, nurturing young talent while safeguarding the country’s rich traditions.

The anniversary concert promises an emotional blend of nostalgia and celebration as the current crop of students shares the stage with an all-star line-up of alumni who have gone on to national and international success.

Taking centre stage is Dingwall’s Innes White, the event’s Musical Director, known for his work with the likes of Julie Fowlis and Eddi Reader.

Joining him are Mànran’s Kim Carnie, Breabach’s Ewan Robertson and Conal McDonagh, and rising stars Catriona Hawksworth, Megan Macdonald, Malin Lewis, Mairearad Green, Charlie Grey, Joseph Peach and Gaelic singer Deirdre Graham, who will host the evening.

Before the big night, the returning stars have been back in Plockton, rehearsing and mentoring today’s students, passing on skills, stories and inspiration.

This rare meeting of generations is what makes the Centre so special.

The concert also marks the release of Mic’d Up, the Centre’s 24th album, showcasing a vibrant mix of traditional and modern tunes performed by the current students.

It is a snapshot of the passion and creativity that continues to thrive in Plockton.

Centre Manager Mike Vass summed it up perfectly.

“This is more than a celebration of the past.

“It is a testament to the strength and future of traditional music in Scotland.”

The 25th anniversary event takes place at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness on 19 June.

Tickets are on sale now via the Eden Court website.
