Police Appeal After 72 Year Old Man Dies in Bettyhill Crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 72 year old man died following a crash involving a van in the car park of the Bettyhill Hotel.

Emergency services were called at around 1.30pm on Tuesday 6 October after a Mercedes Sprinter van was involved in a collision with the male pedestrian.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his family has been informed.

The road was closed while officers carried out enquiries and reopened at around 8pm.

Police Scotland says enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision, with officers particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened or may have recorded useful footage.

Sergeant Calum Macaulay said:

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this extremely difficult time.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, and hasn’t already spoken to officers, to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area and may have dash-cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 1561 of Tuesday 6 October 2026.
