Police Appeal After Stolen Van Found Crashed in Lerwick

Police in Shetland are appealing for witnesses after a stolen van was discovered crashed on a street in Lerwick on Saturday morning.

The white Ford van was taken from Kantersted Road sometime between 8.30pm on Friday 23 October and 8.30am on Saturday 24 October 2026.

Just fifteen minutes after the end of that reported period, the vehicle was found crashed on St Olaf Street at approximately 8.45am.

Police Scotland has launched an investigation into the theft and subsequent collision, with enquiries continuing to establish who was driving the van.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle being taken, witnessed the crash or noticed anything suspicious in either area overnight.

They are also asking residents and motorists to check any private CCTV or dashcam footage that might help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Constable Mirrin Siegel said:

“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the theft or the crash to contact us.

“We’d also ask anyone with private CCTV or dash-cam footage which could assist our enquiries to come forward.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 0838 of Saturday, 24 October, 2026.”

Police have not released details of any injuries or confirmed whether anyone was present when the vehicle was discovered.

No arrests have been announced, and officers have not provided further information about the circumstances in which the van was taken.

The investigation will seek to establish what happened between the vehicle being reported stolen and its discovery on St Olaf Street.

Anyone who was in the Kantersted Road or St Olaf Street areas between Friday evening and Saturday morning may have information that could assist officers.

Even footage that does not directly show the theft or collision could help establish the vehicle’s movements.

Residents with cameras overlooking nearby streets are therefore being encouraged to review recordings from the relevant period.

Police Scotland is asking anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident number 0838 of Saturday 24 October 2026.
