A man has died following a collision involving four vehicles on the A9 near Cromarty Bridge, with police appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage as they work to establish the circumstances of the crash.
Emergency services were called to Coulnagower, south of Cromarty Bridge, at approximately 8.05am on Friday 9 October 2026, following reports of a collision involving a car, a lorry and two other vehicles.
The vehicles involved were a blue Dacia Sandero, a white Iveco lorry, a blue Volkswagen Scirocco and a red BMW X6.
The male driver of the Dacia was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other men, the drivers of the lorry and the Volkswagen Scirocco, were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.
Police have not released further details about their injuries or identified the man who died.
The A9 was closed for several hours while emergency services attended and officers carried out enquiries at the scene.
The road eventually reopened at approximately 9.20pm on Friday evening.
Road policing officers are now seeking information from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw any of the vehicles travelling in the area beforehand.
They are particularly keen to hear from motorists who may have dashcam recordings from the A9 around the time of the incident.
Sergeant Chris Donaldson, from Dingwall Road Policing, said:
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I would ask anyone who witnessed the crash or the vehicles prior and hasn’t already spoken to officers to contact us.
“I would also ask anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have dash-cam footage that could assist to get in touch.”
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation, and police have not indicated what may have caused the crash.
Anyone who was travelling on the A9 south of Cromarty Bridge on Friday morning and believes they may have information is being urged to contact officers, even if they did not witness the collision itself.
Footage showing the vehicles before the incident could help investigators establish their movements and build a clearer picture of the events leading up to the crash.
Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 0528 of 9 October 2026.
