Police Release New Photographs of Lewis Fishermen as Search for Missing Crew Continues

Police Scotland has released new photographs of the fishermen involved in the disappearance of the fishing vessel Kilda off the Isle of Lewis, as the search continues for two missing crew members.

The latest photographs, issued on Thursday 15 October, identify Douglas Craigie, 49, whose body was recovered on Wednesday morning, and Norman Murray, 40, who remains missing alongside 23 year old Murdo Morrison.

The photographs of Douglas Craigie and Norman Murray follow the earlier release of an image of Murdo Morrison, meaning pictures of all three men have now been made available by police.

The fishing vessel Kilda is believed to have departed Brevaig on the west coast of Lewis at approximately 7.30am on Tuesday 13 October.

The crew were understood to be heading towards the Port of Ness area in the north of the island, where they intended to work.

When the vessel failed to return later that evening, concerns were raised and the disappearance was reported to Police Scotland at around 11.35pm.

A major search operation was launched involving HM Coastguard, the RNLI and police.

At approximately 2.45am on Wednesday 14 October, the body of Douglas Craigie was recovered from the area.

Despite extensive efforts by the emergency services, Norman Murray, who is known locally as Tam, and Murdo Morrison remain unaccounted for.

The vessel itself has also not been located.

Police have confirmed that both men are being treated as missing people while efforts continue to establish their whereabouts.

Chief Inspector Ross McCartney, local area commander for the Western Isles, has acknowledged the profound impact of the incident on the islands.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident.

“The families of all three men involved are being provided with specialist support as our searches continue.

“We would ask that the privacy of the families of all three men are respected at this difficult time.

“We are working closely with the HM Coastguard and RNLI to search for the vessel and the two missing men”

Police have also urged members of the public not to put themselves in danger by attempting independent searches along the coastline.

Conditions in the area have been described as challenging, and officers are asking anyone who believes they have information that could assist the search to contact Police Scotland directly.

A police presence remains in the Port of Ness area, where officers are available to speak with local residents.

The release of the additional photographs brings faces to the names of three men whose disappearance has been felt throughout the Lewis community.

For the families of Norman Murray and Murdo Morrison, the search continues, while the family of Douglas Craigie faces the loss of a loved one.

Anyone with information that may assist emergency services should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 3575 of 13 October 2026.
