Public Views Sought on Highland Taxi Fare Review

Members of the public are being invited to share their views on proposed changes to taxi fares across the Highlands, as part of The Highland Council’s statutory fare review for 2025 and 2026.

The draft proposal, agreed by the Highland Licensing Committee on 16 September, suggests keeping current tariffs in place, with the only change being an increase in the maximum luggage charge from £5.00 to £10.00.

If approved, the updated fares would come into effect in February 2026.

The review applies to all taxis and private hire vehicles fitted with meters and operating under a Highland Council licence.

The council is required to review its fare structure at least every 18 months under Section 17 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.

A full copy of the draft tariff is available on the Highland Council website for public inspection.

Residents, passengers and drivers are encouraged to submit written feedback before the consultation closes on Monday 20 October 2025.

Comments can be sent by post to the Principal Solicitor (Regulatory Services), The Highland Council, Council Offices, High Street, Dingwall, IV15 9QN or by email to licensing@highland.gov.uk

All submissions will be considered by the Highland Licensing Committee when it meets again on 2 December 2025 to finalise the updated fare structure.
