Rab Mulheron is returning to the Highland football scene after being persuaded out of retirement to become Director of Football at Inverness Thistle FC.
The move brings one of the most experienced figures in the Highland League back into the game after a remarkable 36 year involvement in football across the north of Scotland.
Mulheron will begin working with the club immediately as part of a transition period before formally taking up the role for the start of next season.
During this early phase he will begin shaping the club’s football department and gaining a full understanding of how Inverness Thistle operates ahead of the new campaign.
The appointment represents a significant move for the club as it looks to strengthen its football structure and build for the future.
Mulheron’s long career in Highland football has seen him work with a number of leading Highland League clubs where he built a reputation for strong recruitment, deep knowledge of the game and a wide network across the region.
He also previously helped Brora Rangers FC to a Highland League title.
Inverness Thistle chairman said securing Mulheron’s services had been a priority for the club.
“Rab is a vastly experienced football man with an extensive network and an unrivalled wealth of knowledge regarding the Highland game.
“As a former Highland League winner who has worked with a string of top Highland League clubs, he was a priority target for us.
“Talent like Rab’s doesn’t stay unattached for long, and we are delighted to get him through the door ASAP.”
Mulheron said the opportunity to return to the game and work with Inverness Thistle was one he was happy to accept.
“After many years in the Highland League and football in general I retired, I had a couple of clubs asking me to join them but I decided to have break then after a meeting with Inverness Thistle FC I decided to accept the position of Director of Football and I look forward to doing my bit to take the club forward.”
He also said it was simply good to be involved again with the sport that has been such a big part of his life.
“It’s great to be back involved in football and especially with a club like Inverness Thistle.”
The appointment signals a new chapter for Inverness Thistle as the club looks to strengthen its football operations ahead of the coming seasons.
