Blind and partially sighted residents in Lochaber will soon have the chance to access local, in-person support when RNIB Scotland hosts a special information event later this month.

The free ‘Living With Sight Loss’ Information Event will take place on Tuesday, October 28, at Fort William Library from 2pm to 4:30pm, offering advice, demonstrations and guidance for anyone affected by sight loss.

Organised in partnership with High Life Highland Libraries and Blindcraft Highland Sensory Services, the drop-in event aims to connect people with local resources and practical tools to make everyday life easier.

Visitors will have the opportunity to try out a range of accessible products and technologies, including magnifiers and other aids designed to support independent living.

The session will also provide information on how to access emotional and practical support for those newly adjusting to sight loss, as well as for friends and family members seeking to help their loved ones.

RNIB Scotland Project Support Officer Ian White said he looks forward to meeting residents and helping raise awareness of the services available across Lochaber.

“We’re looking forward to meeting blind and partially sighted people in Lochaber, and to provide more information about support in their area,” he said.

“Everyone is welcome to come along, whether you’ve engaged with services before, you are new to sight loss and seeking support, or perhaps you’re a family member or friend.

“We’d like to ensure every person with sight loss in Scotland has access to the support they need.”

The event forms part of RNIB Scotland’s ongoing efforts to make support more accessible to people living in rural and remote communities.
