Ross County have confirmed the appointment of Tony Docherty as their new first-team manager, following the departure of Don Cowie last month.

The Staggies had been seeking a replacement after Cowie’s exit, which brought an end to his 18-month tenure in charge.

After a thorough recruitment process, the club has opted for the former Dundee boss, who left Dens Park in the summer after steering the club to a 10th-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.

Docherty, 54, spent two seasons with Dundee, winning just over a third of his matches in charge.

Prior to his managerial spell, he built a strong reputation as an assistant coach, working alongside Derek McInnes at several clubs, including Bristol City, St Johnstone, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock.

Ross County chief executive Steven Ferguson welcomed the appointment, praising Docherty’s credentials and vision for the club’s future.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tony Docherty to Ross County,” Ferguson said.

“He brings with him not only a wealth of experience and proven leadership but also a clear alignment with our club values and long-term vision.

“His commitment to embedding himself within our club and community gives us great confidence as we work together to secure our place back in the Scottish Premiership.

“We were hugely encouraged by the quality of applications we received during the process, and we would like to thank all those who expressed interest in leading our club.

“Today, however, marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter under Tony Docherty.”

The club also expressed gratitude to John Robertson, who stepped in as interim manager for last weekend’s match against Dunfermline.

However, it remains unclear whether Robertson will remain part of the coaching setup going forward.
