A Kirkhill man has run 11km in a weighted vest each day in July as part of a yearlong fundraising effort for the Highland Hospice in memory of his wife, Sinéad.
Frazer Grant has set the ambitious target of £60,000 to give back for the seven days of care his wife received at the Hospice in 2024.
“The Highland Hospice needs to raise £8,500 every single day to provide its vital services across the Highlands.
“That is why I have set a target of raising £60,000 this year, to give back for the seven days of incredible care Sinéad received,” Frazer explains.
To do this, Frazer is over halfway through a series of challenges and events.
In February, he held a half marathon row at CrossFit 57 North in Inverness, with 60 people in 15 teams taking part alongside him; in March, he completed Inverness Half Marathon; and now, Frazer has clocked up 341km over July, running 11km each day in a weighted vest.

Frazer continues:
“Each run in July has been challenging but also very special.
“The route is the last route Sinéad and I ran together, so it’s emotional.
“However, I’ve been lucky to have friends turning up almost every day to join me, something that has pushed me on, even on the most difficult days.”
Sinéad McCarthy, who was 34 and a doctor at Raigmore Hospital, was diagnosed with Melanoma in March 2024.
Sadly, after a short battle, Sinead took very unwell in November, and she was admitted to the Highland Hospice on the 19th where she spent her final days.
“The Highland Hospice was incredible.
“To me, they are more than just people doing their jobs, they are angels.
“Now, I want to give back.
“It feels like the only way I can thank the Hospice for what it did for our family in the darkest of days, and to remember my beautiful, kind and caring wife.
“I am so grateful to everyone who has supported my fundraising so far, whether that is attending events, joining me on runs or donating much needed funds for the Hospice.
“Sinéad dedicated her career and life to caring for others, and the Highland Hospice team showed her that same compassion.
“That’s why I’m determined to hit my £60,000 goal and give back for the incredible care they showed Sinéad and continue to show people every day.”
