Scotland’s bond with its global diaspora is set to grow even stronger, as the Scottish Government announces an expanded round of funding for projects that celebrate and connect Scots around the world.
Applications are now open for the 2025–26 Scottish Connections Fund, with this year’s total funding rising by 50 percent to £75,000.
Grants of up to £5,000 are available to support new, creative projects that promote Scotland’s culture, heritage and international connections.
The fund aims to strengthen ties between Scottish communities overseas and promote the country’s global reputation through a wide range of cultural, educational and business links.
At least 15 projects will be supported this year, with individuals and organisations encouraged to apply from anywhere outside of Scotland.
What matters is the connection.
That could be through ancestry, education, language, business, the arts or simply a love of Scotland and what it represents.
External Affairs Secretary Angus Robertson said the funding boost will allow more projects than ever to benefit.
“We see our diaspora as an extension of Scotland itself,” he said.
“And we want to support that thriving, global community with meaningful opportunities to connect and contribute.”
The fund is open to anyone with a strong Scottish link who wants to launch a new project abroad that celebrates and shares Scotland’s identity, values and voice.
Last year, the Africa Scotland Business Network (ASBN) received support to launch its Future Leaders initiative an international business community for young people under 30.
Director Claire Alexander said the funding made a lasting difference.
“The Scottish Connections Fund played a pivotal role in helping us launch a powerful legacy initiative,” she said.
“ASBN Future Leaders is now home to young people from Scotland, England, Namibia, South Africa and Kenya and the network is growing every month.”
With projects ranging from cultural showcases to international collaborations, the fund continues to open doors for people who want to represent Scotland on a global stage.
The application window is now open for 2025–26.
For those looking to celebrate their Scottish connection in new and imaginative ways this is the chance to bring bold ideas to life.
