The search for a missing walker from Edinburgh has entered its sixth day, as mountain rescue teams continue to comb the Glenfinnan area for any sign of 76-year-old Ian Currie.
Ian set off from Glenfinnan on Tuesday 16 September to begin the Cape Wrath Trail, one of Scotland’s most remote and challenging walking routes.
He was due to arrive at Inverie Bunkhouse by Thursday evening but failed to appear, prompting concern from loved ones and a large-scale search operation.
Since then, teams from Lochaber Mountain Rescue, the RAF, and Police Scotland have been working alongside search dogs and a Coastguard helicopter to cover vast stretches of terrain between Glenfinnan and Knoydart.
Ian is a keen and experienced hillwalker and was well prepared for his trip, but the landscape he was heading into is known for being isolated and unforgiving, especially during poor weather.
He is described as being around 6ft tall, of medium build, with white hair and glasses.
He was last seen wearing a black waterproof jacket and carrying a rucksack and green tent.
New information suggests Ian may have been spotted on the Cape Wrath Trail at around 4pm on the day he set off, roughly 5km north of Glenfinnan Train Station.
A recently recovered CCTV image has helped confirm what he was wearing at the time, narrowing the search zone.

Inspector Kay Macrae, who is leading the investigation, said the response from the public so far has been invaluable.
“Ian is an experienced walker, but the terrain up there is tough going,” she said.
“I’d like to thank everyone who’s already come forward with information, we are still asking anyone who was walking in the Glenfinnan area last Tuesday to think back.
“Did you pass someone who matches Ian’s description?
“Did the new CCTV image jog your memory?”
She added:
“Any small detail could be the key to finding him.”
Ian’s family are being supported by officers and remain hopeful as search efforts continue.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3967 of Thursday 18 September.
