Sleaze ridden Tory government failing to do the day job.

The SNP has said Boris Johnson has “permanently lost the trust of the public and forfeited any right to remain in office” – warning the sleaze-ridden Tory government is so engulfed in scandal that it is failing to do the day job.

As the worsening Tory cost of living crisis pushes millions of people into hardship and poverty, Ian Blackford MP said the Prime Minister is “so caught up in sleaze and scandal” that he is distracting the UK government from the issues that matter and presiding over “a record of devastating failure”.

The SNP Westminster Leader said Tory MPs must finally accept their responsibility to remove Boris Johnson from office – or they will pay a high price at the next election.

It comes as polls show the overwhelming majority of Scots think Boris Johnson has lied and should resign.

A poll by JL partners of 2000 people across Britain found 72% had a negative reaction to Boris Johnson with ‘liar’, ‘untrustworthy’, ‘dishonest’ and ‘incompetent’ being among the most commonly held views.

Separately, polling by YouGov has found two thirds (67%) of people in Scotland, and a majority (57%) of people across Britain, think Boris Johnson should resign and 82% of Scots think the Prime Minister knowingly lied about breaking the law.

Commenting, SNP Westminster Leader Ian Blackford MP said:

“Boris Johnson is a serial liar who has misled parliament, deceived voters and wilfully broken the law.

“He has permanently lost the trust of the public and forfeited any right to remain in office.

“At a time when the Tory cost of living crisis is pushing millions of families into hardship and poverty, the Prime Minister is so caught up in sleaze and scandal that he is distracting the UK government from the issues that matter and presiding over a record of devastating failure.

“No one can credibly argue the UK is better off since Boris Johnson came to power.

“People are poorer, his hard Brexit has cost the economy billions, and the public have lost all faith in this incompetent, sleaze-ridden Tory government.

“If standards in public life mean anything, Tory MPs must finally accept their responsibility to restore public trust by removing the Prime Minister from office – or they will be made to own this and pay a very high price at the next election.

“On 5th May, people in Scotland can send a message to Boris Johnson and prioritise action to tackle the cost of living by voting SNP in the local elections.”
