Shetland Islands Council is inviting responses to an online survey about energy transition in Shetland, the results of which will help to shape the future Energy Strategy for Shetland.
The Council’s Future Energy work is part of the Climate Change Programme and focuses on energy transition in Shetland as the world moves away from fossil fuel use.
Energy use is one pillar of the recently approved Shetland Net Zero Route Map, which shows how Shetland can contribute to the Scottish target of net zero emissions of greenhouse gases by 2045.
Recent rises in energy costs, reduced energy security and dependence on imports has also meant that future energy planning is increasingly relevant for Shetland and the UK.
The online survey is open to all Shetland residents and can be found at: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/Shetlandenergysurvey2022/
The deadline for responses is Sunday 15th January 2023.
Councillor Moraig Lyall, Chair of the Council’s Environment and Transportation Committee said:
“The use of energy has become a very important subject in Shetland alongside the rising cost of living.
“I would like to invite Shetland residents to respond to the Energy Survey so that the Council has a better understanding of public opinion as the Energy Strategy is being prepared.
“It’s important that we hear from as wide a range of people as possible.”
In addition to completing the survey, anyone with particular comments can contact the Council’s Future Energy Team at futureenergyhmpo@shetland.gov.uk.
