Shinty Delivers Goals and Cup Drama Across The Highlands

Shinty action continued across Scotland on Saturday 4th April 2026, with cup competitions taking centre stage alongside league fixtures, delivering goals, red cards and dominant performances across the Highlands.

The opening rounds of the MacTavish Cup and Sutherland Cup brought early knockout intensity, with several sides making strong statements as the season gathers pace.

In the W M Donald MacTavish Cup, Fort William secured a solid 3–1 win over Lochaber, with Victor Smith opening early before further goals from Lewis Clark and Lachie Shaw sealed the result, while Jack Dignan was sent off for the hosts.

Caberfeidh produced one of the standout performances of the weekend with a commanding 7–0 win over Inverness, with Ali Taylor hitting four goals in a dominant display.

Kingussie edged a tight 2–1 win over Kinlochshiel, while Glenurquhart delivered a convincing 5–0 victory over Strathglass, with goals spread throughout the side.

In the Highland Industrial Supplies Sutherland Cup, Caberfeidh again impressed with a 2–1 win over Inverness, while Kinlochshiel secured a 2–1 victory over Glenurquhart in a closely contested tie.

Uddingston also progressed with a 2–1 win over Glasgow Mid Argyll, highlighting their early season intent.

In the Bullough Cup, Strachur Dunoon delivered a high scoring 7–2 win over the English Shinty Association, with goals shared across the team in an attacking performance.

League action was more limited due to unplayable pitches, but Newtonmore recorded a composed 2–0 win over Oban Camanachd in the Mowi Premiership, with Iain Robinson scoring twice.

In the National Division, Beauly secured a strong 3–2 win away at Glasgow Mid Argyll in one of the more competitive fixtures of the round.

North Division 2 saw Beauly continue their good form with a 3–0 win over Boleskine, while several other fixtures across the divisions were postponed due to conditions.

In the women’s game, Glenurquhart delivered an impressive 6–4 win over Inverness, while Uddingston edged a close 4–3 victory against Kilmallie in an entertaining contest.

With cup competitions now underway and league form beginning to settle, the season is starting to show both its depth and its unpredictability.
