A renowned Scottish sawmill has opened a new shop catering for woodwork and outdoor living.

Logie Timber’s new retail outlet – Logie Timber Supplies – joins other independent retailers at Logie Steading, in the heart of Logie Estate, near Forres.

The shop stocks a wide selection of clothing, outdoor equipment, gadgets and gifts – with each product chosen because the team believes in it.

Mark Councill, founder of Logie Timber, explained:

“When people call or visit us at the sawmill, they often ask for clothing and equipment recommendations as well as asking us about the different wood products we offer.

“Logie Timber Supplies is a natural progression from this, allowing us to show customers the gear we recommend.

“Many of the lines are those that the team uses every day in the sawmill – from Carhartt jackets to Leatherman knives and multitools.

“We’re really looking forward to sharing our passion for these products with visitors to the area.”

Alongside professional-grade tools and workwear, Logie Timber Supplies offers a range of casual wear, outdoor kit and gifts suitable for all occasions.

Brands on the shelves include Carhartt, Sigg, Haglöfs, Morakniv, Leatherman, Light My Fire and Opinel.

Shoppers can also visit the newly relocated Board Room, now part of Logie Timber Supplies, which will allow them to see samples of the wood and finishes available from the nearby mill.

Here customers can ask questions, calculate the wood they will need for specific projects, and gain a greater insight into how wood is sourced and prepared.

Local designer/makers Yellow Broom were commissioned to design and craft the interior – a bespoke, material-led design using reclaimed materials and plenty of wood from Logie Timber.

Logie Timber will continue this commitment to local makers by hosting regular Meet the Makers events in store, allowing local craftspeople to showcase their wares and reach a larger audience.

Mark added:

“We want to use Logie Timber Supplies to provide a platform for other local businesses, to help spread the word about the incredible products people are making with Scottish wood and using traditional skills.”

Logie Timber was founded in 2017 with a mission to focus on locally sourced wood.

The team believes in sustainability and a circular economy, with every part of the wood utilised – from timber to biomass fuel to agricultural products.

In the last three years, Logie Timber has invested around £1.5 million in a new saw line and mill, trebling its output and improving efficiency.

The mill will also hold the Logie Timber Festival on September 7-8, 2024, celebrating the outdoor lifestyle and woodcraft.
