Shortlist Announced for BBC Introducing Scottish Act of The Year 2024

The search to uncover the best new and emerging talent in Scotland’s music scene is back for 2024. 

From the hundreds of hopefuls who submitted their tracks for consideration, 8 talented acts have been shortlisted by a panel of expert judges.

The shortlist will now progress to a public vote to determine who will perform in the final.  

The selected acts in the BBC Introducing Scottish Act of The Year 2024 shortlist reflect the diverse range of musical talent and genres that make up Scotland’s vibrant music scene.

The shortlisted acts are:

  • Becky Sikasa
  • Bee Asha
  • Bottle Rockets
  • Dutch Wine
  • Fourth Daughter
  • Majesty Palm
  • Quiet Houses
  • rEDLOENT

The public vote opened on March 15th, at 8pm.

The top four finalists from the public vote will battle it out in front of a live audience, televised by BBC Scotland on Saturday, March 30th.

In addition to the prestigious title, the winning act will receive two recording sessions with BBC Radio Scotland, a coveted slot at Scotland’s largest music festival TRNSMT, and a tailor-made PR campaign from Electric Shores Publicity.

The programme will be presented by BBC Introducing in Scotland’s Shereen Cutkelvin and Phoebe Inglis-Holmes.

Reflecting on the wealth of talent in this year’s shortlist, Shereen Cutkelvin says:

“The Scottish act of the year is back, and we are thrilled to witness the abundance of rising stars in Scotland.

“It’s a pleasure to showcase the talent on the shortlist, and I eagerly anticipate seeing them shine on stage.”

Phoebe Inglis-Holmes adds:

“The return of our Scottish Act of the Year award marks another thrilling opportunity for all the involved acts.

“It’s a remarkable celebration of Scotland’s musical prowess, and I am eagerly anticipating each artist’s performance.”

The year’s competition judges include Jess Iszatt, BBC Introducing Presenter for Radio 1; Sam McTrusty from Twin Atlantic; Ross Leighton from Fatherson; and Bemz, a rapper and former recipient of the BBC Introducing Scottish Act of The Year title in 2022.
