Highland Council will begin significant improvement works later this month along a busy stretch of Smithton Road in Inverness.
The project will focus on the north side of the road, from Caulfield Road North to Barnchurch Road, and is expected to last approximately 12 weeks.
Works include widening and resurfacing the footway, installing drop kerbs and tactile paving, and replacing lighting columns to improve safety and accessibility.
As part of the changes, the existing bus layby near Cranmore Drive will be moved slightly east to accommodate the wider footpath.
A temporary bus stop will be installed nearby for the duration of the project.
Traffic management measures will be in place, and the on-site contractor will aim to minimise disruption for road users and pedestrians throughout the works.
Construction is due to begin around 15 September, subject to weather and ground conditions.
Smithton Road is a key link through one of Inverness’s busiest residential areas, and the upgrade is part of Highland Council’s broader plan to improve everyday infrastructure across the region.
This upgrade to Smithton Road will improve safety, access, and everyday use for pedestrians across Inverness, while supporting Highland Council’s wider goal of creating more connected, walkable communities that are built to meet the needs of all residents.
