SNP Unveils Plans for Monument at Salisbury Crags

The SNP has set out a striking manifesto commitment proposing a large scale transformation of Salisbury Crags in Edinburgh.

Under the plans, the historic landmark would be redeveloped into what has been described as a “Monument to an Independent Scotland”.

The proposal outlines the creation of large scale sculptures carved into the cliff face, drawing inspiration from the Mount Rushmore monument in the United States.

Figures included in the design are William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots and Robert Burns.

The landmark would be renamed “Legends Crags” under the proposals.

The plans also reference contributions from political figures, with names such as Anas Sarwar and Keir Starmer mentioned during the design process.

Initial concepts have reportedly been produced by Gibson Graphics, with construction earmarked for Connery’s Construction.

An SNP spokesperson said:

“The SNP is firmly focussed on the priorities of the people of Scotland and this iconic “Monument to an Independent Scotland” will herald in a bold new era as our nation turns the page on a new chapter in Scotland’s story.

“Salisbury crags is an iconic feature in the Edinburgh landscape and I can think of no better way to pay tribute to the heroes of our past than these colossal sculptures.

“Legends Crags will see our very own Mount Rushmore here in the heart of our capital city only the SNP is on the side of Scotland’s heroes.

“Through a fresh start with independence, we will build Scotland anew and carve a wealthier and fairer Scotland right into the bedrock of our great country.”

Salisbury Crags has long been one of Edinburgh’s most recognisable natural features, overlooking the city and forming part of its historic landscape.
